I am also a Producer/Director/Performer/Host for several shows on UBC-TV.
I am an Actor in Film, Theater and TV.
I am an Activist for LGBT Rights in all 5 Boroughs of NYC. I am the founding, but former, President of the Board of the New Bronx LGBTQ Center.
These are just a few of the things I do. I love to create and try to make a difference in the world.
I grew up in the countryside outside Twelve Mile, Indiana.. Yes, there is such a place. Some maps even have it on there. I always knew I was different and tried my entire life to fit in. It took me until my mid 40s to finally realize “I have to just be ME!” (I recommend people should discover this earlier in life)
My senior year of High School I had to leave everything and everyone I ever knew and move to a new school in Auburn, IN. We lived in town and even got cable TV! It was the big time for me, baby! I was fortunate enough to audition and get selected to be in Conglomeration. A very professional school sponsored full band (with drums, horn section, bass, guitar, keyboards, dancers, etc). I was one of the lead singers. We traveled from state to state performing at schools across the Midwest and recorded an album in Cincinnati. It gave me a taste of touring, recording, live performances before large audiences. I knew that was what I wanted to do with my life.
I studied Voice at Indiana University for a couple years. I was the lead singer in several different groups, toured much of the USA for a while. Then left everyone and everything I ever knew (again) and moved to New York City in 1982.
New York was filthy, mean, dangerous and unforgiving. Not the nice, sweet, safe, stale and ‘anyone-can-live-here-if-you-have-enough-money’ city that it is now. I got manipulated into Real Estate, which I hated. I didn’t want it, but woke up one day & realized I owned the company. At 25, I was strapped with my first business in NYC. I hated every waking moment. I started reaching for drugs and alcohol. A lot of drugs of alcohol for the next 20 years.. Its a miracle I’m here. (By the way… Lindsay Lohan is an amateur drug addict in comparison!) I lost my memories and didn’t care if I lived or died, and almost did on several occasions.
I finally reached out for help. I had no idea how to get back. I began rehab. I started down a very long, lonesome, frightening, unfamiliar and confusing road of recovery with the help of counselors and therapists. One of the first memories to return was “OMG! I’m an Entertainer!” I had forgotten for 20 years.
So I thought, what the hell, let me see if I can still do this. As soon as I decided to get back into entertainment, the most miraculous things started falling into my path. “At the moment of commitment, the Universe conspires to assist you” –Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. That is True. I’m a Living example of it.
Over the course of the next 10 years, I worked on my Mind (counseling and therapies), then my Spirit (found a Spiritual Community that worked for me), then my Body (gastric sleeve bariatric surgery). I’m always working to improve and keep my Mind, Body, and Spirit aligned.
Now, I am covering Red Carpets talking to celebrities, producing TV shows, performing and hosting at most of the Pride organizations in the New York City area, Singing, Songwriting, Acting in Film, Theater, and TV and just appreciating every waking moment. Trying to live my life to the fullest.
Words of Wisdom: There is no need to let drugs and alcohol control your life. At first it may be fun, but it is a very dark and very deep hole with nothing, and I mean nothing, there. Trust me, I went all the way down and touched the bottom of it…
I suggest: Find what brings you Joy in this Life, and only YOU know what that is. No one else can tell you what brings you Joy. Find what brings you Happiness and THAT is what you’re supposed to do. Its not always going to be easy and pleasant, but when you enjoy what you’re doing, that makes for a much more blissful existence.
2 mantras I created about myself:
- The first 1/2 of my life I created a living hell… the 2nd 1/2 of my life, I’m creating a LIVING HEAVEN!!
- The first 1/2 of my life I was a supporting role in everyone else’s dreams. Now, in the 2nd 1/2 of my life, I’m STARRING IN MINE!!!
Lets have FUN, everyone!!
With Love and Light
